The Herbivore tier covers the grazing fauna that fill out Subnautica 2’s shallow and reef ecosystems. They are non-hostile, often schooling, and exist to make the world feel alive — and to feed the predators above them in the food chain.
Why they matter
- Ecology cues. Where herbivores graze calmly, the area is relatively safe. When a school scatters suddenly, a predator is usually inbound — a free early-warning system.
- Food and resources. Several herbivore species are edible or yield crafting inputs, making them a renewable early-game survival staple.
- Scanning. Like all fauna, they contribute Data Bank entries when scanned.
Subnautica 2’s Early Access build ships dozens of creature archetypes spread across Passive, Herbivore, Carnivore, Predator and Leviathan tiers; the herbivores are the broad, calm base of that pyramid.
