Early Access model
Subnautica 2 follows the same Early Access path as the original Subnautica: launch a playable core, then expand content, story and polish over time with community feedback. The May 14, 2026 build ships a substantial slice — dozens of creatures, the playable biome stack, the modular Tadpole, the overhauled base builder, crafting, and 4-player co-op — with more arriving through the roadmap.
Platforms & pricing
- PC: Steam and the Epic Games Store.
- Xbox: Xbox Series X|S, and included with Xbox Game Pass on day one.
- Price: €29.99 at Early Access launch (Early Access titles commonly rise in price at 1.0 — buying in Early Access typically locks the lower price).
- No microtransactions: the game is sold as a premium title without in-game purchases.
On the roadmap
Confirmed for later Early Access updates:
- A large mobile-base submarine — the sequel's drivable-habitat craft.
- A mech suit for deep, high-pressure work.
- Continued story rollout toward the World Tree finale, plus more biomes and creatures.
Development context
Subnautica 2's road to release drew significant press attention beyond the game itself — including coverage of leadership changes at Unknown Worlds and disputes tied to the studio's acquisition by Krafton and an earn-out / bonus arrangement connected to the game's launch timing. The game ultimately shipped into Early Access on May 14, 2026.
